Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi was hailed as the "best team-mate" by Thomas Tuchel after his heroics for England following his failed transfer to Liverpool last week. Guehi was on the verge of securing a move to Anfield on deadline day but Palace pulled the plug on the deal in the 11th hour. Despite the disappointment, Guehi gave his best for the Three Lions and scored in their thumping 5-0 win over Serbia.

England maintained their 100 per cent win record in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers as they registered a thumping 5-0 victory over Serbia in a difficult away fixture on Tuesday. Harry Kane opened the scoring for the Three Lions before Noni Madueke doubled their lead in the first half. Ezri Konsa, Guehi and Rashford then scored in the second half to complete the rout.

Guehi, who had picked up a groin problem in England's previous clash against Andorra last week, was initially doubtful for the clash, but he eventually did take the field and contributed with a goal. The Palace star received heavy praise from manager Tuchel, who called the defender the "best team-mate".

Speaking to , Tuchel said: "It’s the example of how the boys were in this camp, exactly like this. They put their personal interests aside. He was the best team-mate possible and had a fantastic performance. Very strong for Crystal Palace and showed it today on the pitch."
